Volkswagen becomes the new Main Sponsor of TSV 1860 München

Three-year contract until 2016 includes extensive advertising and marketing package, ‘Think Blue.’ logo adorns the ‘Lions’ jerseys

Wolfsburg/Munich, Germany - Volkswagen is the new Main Sponsor of TSV 1860 München, having signed a three-year contract with the 2. Bundesliga football club until 2016. The words ‘Think Blue.’ which set the sustainability strategy behind the automotive brand will adorn the shirts of the team, known as the ‘Lions’.

Thomas Zahn, Head of Marketing and Sales Germany, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, said: “1860 München is of interest to us in many ways: As a traditional club, with loyal, passionate supporters and a good sportive perspective. As well as with its venue, being one of the best stadiums in the world and its location in the city of Munich. This makes the partnership for Volkswagen a well-rounded commitment and at the same time positions us very prominently in the attractive 2. Bundesliga.”

This Friday evening 1860 München will start off into the new 2. Bundesliga season with an away match against FC St. Pauli. For the first time, the ‘Think Blue.’ branding will be featured on the jersey - matching the team colours of the ‘Blues’. In addition to shirt advertising, the package with the club includes numerous additional advertising and marketing rights: from board advertising to hospitality opportunities and PR activities on site.

Robert Schäfer, Managing Director of TSV 1860 München, commented: “We are proud that with Volkswagen, we could gain an outstanding partner as the Main Sponsor and that we were able to convince them of our way. This is a huge opportunity for 1860 München. We are happy that the team’s jersey now represents the way that Lions fans live.”

Ralf Koslowski, Managing Director of Infront Germany, comments: “With Volkswagen, the most valuable German brand has been secured as Main Sponsor for the Lions in close cooperation between TSV 1860, HI2 and Infront. The entry of Volkswagen underlines the attractiveness of 1860 as a sponsorship platform and is a logical extension of the existing football strategy of Volkswagen. As a long-standing partner of the company, we are convinced that the commitment as main sponsor will result in clearly measurable sales and communication successes.”
