32 teams, 16 stadiums, 1 title: The Swiss Ice Hockey Cup sets into action from 1 October

Together with leading brands, the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation and its marketing partner InfrontRingier are launching the new edition of the legendary knockout competition


Zug, Switzerland - As of 1 October 2014, the Swiss Ice Hockey Cup will return to Swiss stadiums following 42 years of absence. In the first round, the clubs from the National A and B leagues compete with their challengers from four geographic regions across 16 games.

The Swiss online streaming platform blick.ch will broadcast at least one game per round live through till the semi-final together with mixed zone interviews and studio circuits featuring discussion with expert panels to complete the coverage. From the first round, the local derby between EHC Thun and SC Bern will be broadcast on the streaming platform. The final of the Swiss Ice Hockey Cup, held in February 2015, will be broadcast and produced by SRG SSR, the Swiss public-service broadcaster. All other live games shown on TV or online will be produced in HD quality by tpc, a subsidiary of SRG SSR.

Besides the distribution of media rights, InfrontRingier is also handling the centralised marketing of sponsorship opportunities for the Swiss Ice Hockey Cup. Zurich Insurance Group as Presenting Partner is followed by a further selection of Official Sponsors aligning themselves with the platform including; engelbert strauss (work wear), Öztal Sölden (tourism), PowerFood AG (sports nutrition), upc cablecom (telecommunications) and Victorinox (also taking the role of Official Timekeeper). On the third tier, the portfolio of sponsors is complemented by Ochsner Hockey as the Official Supplier and manufacturer of the team jerseys and Perskindol as the Official Medical Partner.


1,000 jerseys and helmets especially for the Cup

For the first time in Swiss club ice hockey, sponsors will be provided with the opportunity to exclusively present themselves across Switzerland throughout the entire season. More than 1,000 jerseys and helmets for players of all teams will feature sponsor logos. In addition, companies can present themselves on more than 160 meters of advertising boards and 390m2 under ice advertising opportunities per game. Besides the branding and promotional opportunities, companies also receive hospitality tickets to engage with their sales and client network.

Specific Corporate Identity within the ice hockey brand family

To give the Cup a clear and independent appearance, but at the same time connect it to the existing brand family of Swiss Ice Hockey, the visual identity has been constructed on the basis of the existing brand elements. The colour blue highlights not only the logo of the Swiss Ice Hockey Cup, but is also the ground colour for the arena decor of all matches. The full identity is being rolled out for all games from the round of 16 onwards as well as for the first round match between EHC Thun and SC Bern. This allows for high recognition and an integrated advertising environment both on site and through the media.
