HBS Broadcast Academy at the IBC 2018 Amsterdam

The Academy is partnering with the live sports technology experts, EVS, and the leading broadcast & media conference organizer IBC, to propose a series not to be missed sessions during the IBC show of Amsterdam (13-18 Sept).

Sunday 16th Sept 1030- 1200 - the changing world of sports rights acquisition will be discussed - with public broadcasters seeking to find new ways to compete in a rights market now being squeezed by both pay broadcasters and new direct-to-consumer competition.

Joining the panel to discuss the latest market trends worldwide are Sundar Raman, the man behind India’s IPL and mobile expansion in India, former Olympic chief and media advisor Vincent Chupin, African Union of Broadcasting CEO  Gregoire Ndjaka, and Essa Al Hitmi, co-founder of Al Jazeera sports network and now running Middle Eastern broadcaster Al Kass.

Sunday 16th Sept from 1400-1530- the unique challenges of digital production will be discussed by experts in the field. Infront Senior Vice President Claude Ruibal will present the development of digital change while Facebook’s Melissa Lawton will  discuss social media’s role alongside broadcasters as Facebook develops a strategy for a different viewing experience. Other panellists include Essa Al Hitmi, General Manager Al Kass sports channels.

Sunday 16th Sept 1600-1730- Moving beyond SDI gathers together experts who are changing the industry.

EVS’s Global VP Product Marketing, James Stellpflug will bring together key technology specialists from the leading broadcast organisations to share on the topic of IP evolution and transformation of existing legacy SDI production infrastructure.   Dave Duvall, EVP IT & infrastructure at Discovery, behind the industry giant’s dramatic switch to cloud-based transmission;  Joerg Sander, director of host broadcast operations at HBS, who introduced new technology to some of the world’s biggest sports events; Bassil Zoubi, the ASBU director of technology & development, will share his experiences of the Middle East and Africa; and Samer Younes, technical advisor at Al Kass sports channels, who will elaborate on his practical experience of how broadcasters are coping with current technology change.

Tuesday 18th Sept 1400-1600 - Quality control in live sports production is a unique skill to improve sports coverage worldwide, ensuring consistent editorial and technical standards at live sports events. Phillippe Oziol from HBS has practical experience of developing standards for the French football league will share his knowledge alongside Riki van Steeden, the man behind quality control for some of the biggest events in the world and Samer Younes from Al Kass providing a broadcasters perspective.
